Click Here History: The 127 began on the 25th April 1981, and provided a Monday to Saturday service between Tooting Broadway and Wallington Shotfield; this replaced the southern section of the
77. The route was operated at Merton Garage (AL). The current PVR was 4D Monday to Friday and Saturday 5D.
In Late 1982 the 127 was converted to single deck and the northbound journeys were diverted via Wallington Station forecourt. The 127 was operated by Leyland Lynx type buses. The PVR was currently, Monday to Friday 4LS and Saturday 5LS. On the 4th February 1984 the 127 was extended from Wallington to Purley and garage journeys to South Croydon (TC). The route also was diverted through Carshalton Station instead of using London Rd. The current PVR was 4D Monday to Friday and Saturday 9D, the 127 was now converted back to double deck operation.
In April 1985 the 127 was extended from Purley to Selsdon between Monday and Friday peak hours, as the
234 was withdrawn. The current PVR was 8D Monday to Friday and Saturday 9D. 11 months later in 1986, the 127 was transferred to London and Country operation from Chelsham Garage (CM). The route was extended from Purley to Sanderstead full time and still ran on to Selsdon between Mondays to Friday peaks. In 1987 some of the journeys on the 127 ran to Chelsham Garage (CM).
On 24th June 1989 the 127A was withdrawn which was the Sunday service for the 127. STREATHAM HILL STN (Suns) or TOOTING BROADWAY (MS) - SANDERSTEAD CHURCH (MS) - SELSDON (MF peaks) -CHELSHAM GARAGE
(garage journeys). Later on in October the operation was transferred to Godstone Garage.
On the 29th September 1990 the Sunday service was revised the route was now TOOTING BROADWAY - PURLEY
(MS) - SELSDON (MF peaks/Suns). In March 1993 the operation was transferred to CN and was withdrawn between Purley and Selsdon. The 127 now ran from Tooting to Purley. Later on in April 1994 the 127 was re-routed in Tooting via Southcroft Road instead of London Road, the current PVR was Monday to Saturday 7DD and Sunday 4DD. By February 1995 operation was transferred to London Links.
On the 28th June 1997 the 127 was converted to Single Deck operation, and in October the same year to additional school journeys were added which were run by Nostalgia Bus. The PVR was currently 9SD Monday to Friday, Saturday 7SD and Sunday 5SD, still operated by London Links.
In 1998 London Links operation was withdrawn and London General and Selkent took over the route. The 2 additional school journeys were still operated by Nostalgia Bus. The current PVR for London General was 5M Monday to Saturday and Sunday 3M from Sutton Garage (A). The current Selkent PVR was Monday to Saturday 5DAL and Sunday 4DAL. In January 1999 the Selkent operation was transferred to Blue Triangle from (BE) Garage, the PVR numbers were kept the same except from the types of buses operated.
On 10th April 1999 the contract was awarded to Mitcham Belle all the other contracts were withdrawn, the current PVR was 12DTSLF Monday to Friday, Saturday 10DTSLF and Sunday 4DTSLF, operated from MI garage. In 2003 the garage was relocated to MC (Beddington Lane) the PVR was now currently 12DTSLF Monday to Friday, Saturday 10DTSLF and Sunday 4DTSLF. Mitcham Belle were brought out by Centra in August 2004, they used the same base at MC. There was a decrease in the PVR by 1 bus on Saturdays. Centra also went bust so they lost all there routes.
In late 2005 the 127 operation was transferred to Metrobus at their new garage Croydon (C). The current PVR is 10 Monday to Friday, Saturday 9 and Sunday 4. The route is operated by Omnidekka’s. Average journey time is between 40-71 minutes. The average frequency is Monday to Saturday every 15 minutes, Sunday and evenings every 30 minutes.
