History:

The route 217A began on the 27th February 1963 and ran a Monday to Saturday service. The route ran from Alexander Park (Victoria) to Epping Forest, (Via Waltham Cross). The 217A was operated by Enfield Garage (E), by RT type buses. The current PVR was Monday to Saturday 7RT. On the 7th September 1968 the 217A was withdrawn between Enfield and Turnpike Lane so the route was diverted to Enfield Town instead. By current PVR was Monday to Saturday 4RT. The current route was from Enfield Town to Epping Forest.

A year later the Monday to Friday E allocation was withdrawn and transferred to Loughton Garage (L). The current PVR for Monday to Friday was 5RT from L and Saturday 4RT from E. Some of the garage journeys carried on from Epping Forest to Loughton Garage. On the 16th January 1971 the E allocation was withdrawn and transferred to L. Later in the middle of June 1975, the 217A was diverted to Shernbroke Road, there were no PVR changes. On the 10th April 1976 a Sunday service was introduced between Waltham Cross and Loughton Garage, this was to replace parts of the withdrawn 205A. The current PVR was 5RT Monday to Friday, 4RT Saturday and 2RT Sunday. On the 20th August 1977 the 217A was withdrawn.
