History:

The route N2 began on the 13th April 1984 and provided a nightly service between Trafalgar Square and West Norwood Station via Westminster, Victoria, Vauxhall, Brixton and Tulse Hill. The route was operated at Victoria garage (GM). The route was operated by Daimler type buses and the current PVR was Monday to Sunday 1D. By the 5th July 1984 the D type was replaced by Metrobuses. On the 27th October 1984, there was a few changes to the route, the current route was Friern Barnet, Muswell Hill, Archway, Tufnell Park, Kentish Town, Camden Town, Tottenham Court Road, Cambridge Circus, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Westminster, Victoria, then 2 journeys via Route 24 to Pimlico Grosvenor Road or Vauxhall, Brixton, Tulse Hill, West Norwood, Crystal Palace. A Holloway garage (HT) was introduced as well, the current PVR was Monday to Sunday 2M from GM and 1M from HT.


On the 27th October 1985 the route was diverted southbound via Victoria Bus Station. By the 25th September 1987 there was now three garage allocation for the N2 as a Muswell Hill allocation was introduced. The current PVR was Sunday to Friday 2M from MH and HT, Saturday 1M from GM and 2M from MH and HT. By the 21st July 1990 the Muswell Hill and Victoria allocations was withdrawn and replaced by Finchley (FY). The current route was North Finchley (garage journeys) – Friern Barnet - Pimlico (2 journeys) – Crystal Palace. The current PVR was Sunday and Friday 4M from FY and Saturday’s 5M from FY and 2M from HT.

On the 18th July 1992 the N2 was extended full time is North Finchley. The current PVR was Sunday to Friday 4M from FY, Saturday 5M from FY and 3M from HT. By the 4th December 1993 the Finchley allocation was withdrawn and replaced by a full time Holloway allocation. The current PVR was Sunday to Friday 4M and Saturday 8M. On the 23rd June 1995 the N2 had some route changes, the current route was Crystal Palace to Hampstead Heath via Camden Town, Tottenham Court Road, Charing Cross Road, Trafalgar Square, Westminster, Victoria, Pimlico Stn, Vauxhall, Brixton, Tulse Hill and West Norwood. The current PVR was Sunday to Friday 3M and Saturday 6M.

On the 27th November 1999 the N2 was withdrawn between Trafalgar Square and Hampstead Heath, this section was replaced by the N24. The current PVR was Sunday to Friday 3M and Saturday 6M. On the 1st April 2000, it was the start of a new contract which was awarded to Arriva London South and they operated the route from Norwood Garage (N). The type was changed to L class (Leyland Olympians). The current PVR was Monday to Friday 4L, Saturday and Sunday 7L. By the 29th August 2003 the route was converted to low floor double deck operation and the PVR stayed the same. The average journey time is between 35 and 45 minutes. The frequency Monday to Friday is every 30 minutes Saturday and Sunday every 20 minutes.
