was introduced in March 1991 to serve the Ravensbourne area of Bromley, and also the Churchfields area of Beckenham. Initially the 351
ran half-hourly, but demand soon saw this upped to every 20 minutes.
was rebranded 354 on 6th July 2002, this is believed to be mainly because there was another 351 in the Romford area. The Bromley route was renumbered to 354, to avoid any further confusion between the two 351
routes. The new 354 had taken its route number from a route cut in the Bromley area only two years previously. The old 354 route had been also a Metrobus commercial route, linking Bromley to Croydon, via much of the current T33
route to Addington Village. The 354 was withdrawn in May 2000 due to opening of the new Croydon Tramlink and then was then partially rerun by the new Tramlink feeder route T33 from West Croydon to Addington Village. Other Tramlink feeder routes include the T31
. Ironically, the Romford 351 was withdrawn altogether a few years after the Bromley renumbering.
Route 354 was operated by Metrobus at Orpington (MB). The route was mainly operated by Darts and East lancs Esteems. The current PVR was Monday to Saturday 5DT. Metrobus successfully retained the route for a 5 year tender from 30 August 2003, and new low floor Darts were specified. The current PVR was Monday to Saturday 5MPD.
When the route was up for tender again in 2008, change was in the air. The route was awarded to Selkent, ending 17 historic years of Metrobus operation. Selkent had ordered 8.8m Enviro 200s Darts, the smallest in the range- to cope with a rather tight corner into Downs Hill in Ravensbourne. Operation is now from Bromley Garage (TB), PVR is 5 Monday to Saturday and frequency is every 20 minutes, and 30 minutes in evenings. The average journey time is between 25 and 40 minutes.
