History:

The route 2A began on the 19th May 1954 and provided a service between West Norwood to Golders Green Station. This replaced the 178 and short journeys on route 2. The route only ran Monday to Saturday. The 2A was operated at Stockwell Garage by RTL type buses. The current PVR was Monday to Friday 27RTL and Saturday 25RTL. On the 11th October 1961 the Saturday am service was withdrawn between Swiss Cottage and Golders Green Station. The route was Monday to Friday West Norwood to Golders Green Station, Saturday am West Norwood to Swiss Cottage and Saturday pm West Norwood to Victoria. The current PVR was Monday to Friday 17RTL and Saturday 12RTL. A few years later in July 1964, the Saturday route was withdrawn between Victoria and Swiss Cottage. The PVR was Monday to Friday 15RTL and Saturday 8RTL.

At the very end of 1966 on the 31st December the Saturday service was withdrawn and the Rosendale section was replaced by route 172, as the route was revised. The PVR Monday to Friday was 14RTL. By the 1st March 1967 RT’s replaced the current RTL’s; the PVR was also decreased to 7RT Monday to Friday. On the 13th June 1970 the 2A was withdrawn between Stockwell and Victoria expect from peak hours. There were no changes to the PVR. By the 8th January 1972 the route was completely withdrawn between Stockwell Station and Victoria. The RT type buses were changed to RM type buses. The current PVR was now 5RM Monday to Friday. On the 5th January 1974 the 2A was withdrawn.

The 2A was re-enforced again on the 27th February 1988 and was operated by Leyland Olympians at Norwood Garage (N). The route ran Monday to Saturday. The route ran from Crystal Palace to Brixton Station Monday to Saturday except evenings. The 2A ran from Crystal Palace to Baker Street Station in the evenings. The current PVR was Monday to Friday 7L and Saturday 5L. By July 1990 Norwood Garage were introducing M type buses to the route (Metrobuses). The current PVR was now 7L/M Monday to Friday and Saturday 5L/M. On the 10th August 1991 a Sunday service was introduced as this replaced the 2B as this was withdrawn. The current PVR was now Monday to Friday 10L/M, Saturday 8L/M and Sunday 14L/M.

At the end of 1991 the route for Monday to Saturday was Crystal Palace to Brixton but Sunday and evening services ran from Crystal Palace to Baker Street Station. On the 27th March 1993 the Monday to Saturday evening service was withdrawn along with the Sunday service on the 2A, this was replaced by the route 2. The 2A was withdrawn on the 29th January 1994 and was replaced by route 2.
