The route 128 began on the 20th March 1993 and provided a Monday to Saturday service between Romford Station and Ilford (Roden St) The 128 was enforced as it replaced the 129
between Romford and Becontree Heath. The route was operated from Barking Garage (BK) by East London using Titans. The current PVR was Monday to Saturday 6T. By the 4th December 1993 the operation was transferred to Romford North St Garage (NS). The current PVR was Monday to Friday 6T/1-129 and Saturday 7T. During 1995 the operation was transferred to Stagecoach East London using the same type of buses. Later on the 19th July 1997 stagecoach lost the contract to Harris Bus and they decided to introduce a Sunday service. The 128 was now operated from Thurrock Garage (WT). The current PVR was Monday to Friday 6DD, Saturday 7DD and Sunday 4DD.
25th March 2000 Harris Bus lost of the contract to East Thames Buses and they operated the 128 from their garage at Ash Grove (AG). They used a variety of double Decker buses. The current PVR was Monday to Friday 6DD, Saturday 7DD and Sunday 4DD. On the 25th June 2004 the route was extended from Ilford to Claybury Broadway as the route 129 was withdrawn so the PVR was increased to Monday to Friday 12DD, Saturday 11DD and Sunday 6DD. On the 15th October 2005 East Thames Buses lost the contract to Arriva London and they now operate the 128 from their Barking Garage (DX) using low floor double deckers called VLA type. The route now runs from Claybury Broadway to Romford (Via Ilford). The current PVR is Monday to Saturday 12VLA and Sunday 10VLA. The average journey time is between 44 and 67 minutes, the frequency Monday to Saturday is every 12 minutes, Sunday and evenings every 20 minutes.
