History: The route 178 began on the 13th May 1959 and provided a service Monday to Saturday service between Clapton Pond and Stratford Maryland Station via Lower Clapton Road, Urswick Road, Homerton, Ponsford Street, Morning Lane, Wick Road, Hackney Wick, Chapman Road, White Post Lane, Hepscott Road, Rothbury Road, White Post Lane, Carpenters Road, Stratford Broadway and The Grove. The route was operated at Dalston Garage D by RLH type buses. The current PVR was Monday to Friday 13RLH and Saturday 6RLH. On the 14th October 1959 the route was diverted via Homerton High Street, Lea Conservancy Road and Eastway. The Saturday PVR was also increased to 7RLH. On the 17th April 1971 the route was withdrawn and replaced by
route S3 which ran between Hackney Wick and Stratford.
