History

The route 7 began on the 14th October 1959 and was operated at Middle Row Garage. The route ran between Acton Tram Depot- Oxford Circus (Mon-Sat evenings) – London Bridge (Mon-Sat except evenings). The route was run by RTL’s. The current PVR was Monday to Friday 31RTL and Saturday 21RTL.

On the 9th October 1963 the Saturday service was extended from Acton to Kew Green to replace the withdrawn 265. The current route was Kew Green (Sat)Acton Tram Depot (Mon-Fri)Oxford Circus (Mon-Fri evenings/Sat pm) London Bridge Station (Mon-Fri daytime/Sat am). The current PVR was Monday to Friday 31RTL and Saturday 21RTL. On the 1st July 1964 the RTL type was replaced by the Routemasters RM.
On the 31st December 1966 the Saturday section between Acton and Kew was replaced by route 27A. The current route was Acton Tram Depot (Mon-Sat)Oxford Circus (Mon-Fri evenings/Sat pm) London Bridge Station (Mon-Fri daytime/Sat am). The current PVR was Monday to Friday 31RM and Saturday 18RM.

By the 24th January 1970 there was another route change to Acton Tram Depot (Mon-Sat) – Oxford Circus (Sat) – Tottenham Court Road (Mon-Fri) - Bloomsbury (Mon-Fri peaks). The current PVR was Monday to Friday 27RM and Saturday 15RM.

On the 25th April 1981 the route was revised, as a Sunday service was introduced, Richmond (Suns) - Acton Tram Depot (Mon-Sat) – Oxford Circus (Sat) – Tottenham Court Road (Mon-Fri) - Bloomsbury (Mon-Fri peaks). The current PVR was Monday to Friday 18RM, Saturday 11RM and Sunday 8RM. On the 15th August Middle Row Garage closed and the allocation was transferred to Westbourne Park. By the 31st August the Sunday service was converted to DM type. On the 4th October the Sunday operation was converted back to RM type. The current PVR was Monday to Friday 16RM, Saturday 10RM and Sunday 7RM.
On the 1st February 1986 the Sunday operation was converted to One Person Operation using Metrobuses. The current PVR was Monday to Friday 14RM, Saturday 9RM and Sunday 8M. On the 21st November 1987 the route was revised again, Richmond (Suns) – Wormwood Scrubs (Mon-Sat) – Oxford Circus (Suns) - Bloomsbury (Mon-Sat). The RM’s were replaced by RML’s Monday to Saturday. The current PVR was Monday to Friday 12RML, Saturday 8RML and Sunday 8M.

On the 4th March 1989 the route was extended Monday to Saturday from Wormwood Scrubs to East Acton. The Saturday PVR was increased to 10RML. On the 25th November the Sunday service was withdrawn between Kew Green and Richmond.
On the 1st February 1992 the Sunday operation was transferred to Alperton Garage. They also converted to Sunday service to Midibus operation. The current PVR was Monday to Friday 12RML, Saturday 10RML and Sunday 12DW/MA. By the 18th July, the Monday to Saturday service was extended from Bloomsbury to Russell Square. The current route was Kew Green (Suns)East Acton Station (Mon-Sat) – Oxford Circus (Suns)Russell Square (Mon-Sat).

On the 8th February 1993 the route was revised Monday to Saturday from Russell Square to East Acton Station and Sunday ran from Russell Square to Kew Green. The allocation was now back at Westbourne Park full time. The current PVR was Monday to Friday 12RML, Saturday 10RML and Sunday 11DW.

On the 25th May 1993 the evening service was converted to Midibus operation using the buses from route 70, as the route was now owned by Centrewest. On the 18th May 1996 the Sunday service was withdrawn between Acton and Kew Green. The current route was Monday to Saturday from Russell Square to East Acton Station and Sunday from Russell Square to Acton Horn Lane. The current PVR was Monday to Saturday 12RML, Saturday 10RML, Sunday 10DW and evenings ex DW ex 70.

By the 30th June 1999 a DM type was introduced for the Sunday and evening service of route 7. On the 24th June 2000 the route was revised, as it now went from Russell Square to East Acton Station all the time. The withdrawn section was replaced by route 70. The current PVR was Monday to Friday 13RML, Saturday 11RML, Sunday 10DML and evenings DMLs.

On the 28th October 2000 the Sunday allocation was transferred to Acton Garage and was converted to double deck operation using TNLs. On the 1st February 2003 the Sunday Acton Garage allocation was withdrawn and the route was extended in East Acton to Brundel Road. The current PVR was Monday to Friday 20RML, Saturday 15RML and Sunday 11TN.

On the 3rd July 2004, the route was converted to low floor double deck operation. The current PVR was Monday to Friday 20TAL, Saturday 16TAL and Sunday 11TAL. On the 23rd June 2007 Metroline won the contract for route 7 and they still have the contract today. The route is operated from Perivale Garage using SELs, which have been introduced throughout 2007. The average journey time is between 41 to 78 minutes. The current PVR is Monday to Friday 23SEL, Saturday 22SEL and Sunday 15SEL (Spring 2009) The frequency Monday to Saturday is every 7 to 8 minutes, Sunday and evenings run every 12 minutes.
