Route History:

• The route 453 began on the 15th February 2003 and provided a service between Deptford Broadway and Marylebone Station via New Cross, Elephant & Castle, Westminster, Whitehall, and Oxford Circus. The route also replaced the withdrawn section of route 53 between Trafalgar Square and Oxford Circus. The route was operated by Stagecoach London at Plumstead Garage by TA and VN type buses. The current PVR was Monday to Friday 30TA/VN, Saturday 25TA/VN and Sunday 21TA/VN.
• On the 15th March 2003 the Mercedes Citaro bendy buses were introduced. By the 20th March 2004 the route became 24hour service the daytime PVR stayed the same and the night PVR Monday to Sunday was 10MA.
• On the 15th January 2005 the 453’s PVR was reduced, Monday to Saturday 25MA, Sunday 21MA and nights Monday to Sunday 10MA.
• On the 9th September 2006 the daytime PVR was reduced again, Mon-Sat 22MA and Sun 19MA.
• On the 16th February 2008, Selkent lost the contract to London General part of the Go Ahead Group with 23 new Bendy buses, The route was now operated from Mandela Way (MW) which is still the allocation today. The current PVR is Mon-Fri 23MAL, Sat 22MAL & Sun 16MAL.
• On the 24th September 2011, due to the Mayor Of London wanting to scrap the bendy buses, the 453 was converted to double deck operation using a brand new fleet of Enviro 400’s. The current PVR is 35E Monday to Friday, 23E Saturday & 17E Sunday.
• A couple of months later on the 19th November 2011, the new contract was renewed with Go Ahead London (London General).
• On the 18th October 2014, the 453 was transferred to Borismaster's (New London Routemaster Buses) the current PVR Mon-Fri 35LT, Sat 23LT & Sun 17LT.
• Due to the closure of Mandela Way (MW) Garage, the allocation was transferred to New Cross NX on the 29th July 2017, current PVR Mon-Fri 35LT, Sat 24LT & Sun 18LT.
